Appointments and consultations
Everything about booking, what to expect on your first visit and how we work.
The fastest way is via WhatsApp. Just send a message to 998 109 6152 (Cancún) or 998 109 6152 (Puerto Morelos) with your name, the reason for your visit and your preferred location. We reply within minutes during office hours.
The initial consultation takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. It includes your medical history, a physical exam and a diagnosis. If any additional test is needed, it is scheduled for a second visit.
Appointments are usually available within 1–3 business days. If your case is urgent (severe pain, heavy bleeding, thrombosis), mention it when you write and we’ll do our best to see you the same day or the next.
No. We are a private specialty practice and you can come directly without a referral from a general practitioner. If you have previous tests or lab results, bring them with you — they’re always useful.
We don’t work with public health insurance or IMSS. We are a private practice. We accept cash and debit or credit cards. If your major medical insurance offers reimbursement, we can issue a receipt for our fees.
Yes, just let us know via WhatsApp as early as possible. There is no cancellation fee. If something came up at the last minute, write to us and we’ll find the most convenient time to reschedule.

General proctology
What you need to know before your first proctology consultation.
If you have bleeding when going to the bathroom, pain when sitting or passing stool, anal itching, a feeling of a lump, discharge or any persistent discomfort in the anal area, don’t ignore it. Many patients wait years before seeing a doctor — and treatment is always simpler when the problem is addressed early.
It’s much simpler than most people imagine. The exam takes just a few minutes, is done in a comfortable position and with complete privacy. Most patients are surprised at how quick and uncomplicated it is.
No special preparation is required for the initial consultation. We only recommend having had a natural bowel movement that day. No enema or special diet is needed. If a specific test is scheduled, the doctor will give you instructions at that time.
Surgery is reserved for advanced cases or when other treatments have failed. In most of the cases we see, there is an effective non-surgical alternative. Dr. Cabrera always explores the least invasive options first.
Absolutely. Everything discussed during the consultation is confidential medical information. We understand these topics are sensitive and treat every case with the discretion it deserves.

Hemorrhoids
Everything about non-surgical hemorrhoid treatment in Cancún.
During the procedure there may be a feeling of pressure or mild discomfort. Afterwards there may be mild discomfort during the first 24–48 hours, manageable with common pain relievers. The vast majority of patients return to their activities the same day or the next.
The treated hemorrhoid does not come back. However, new hemorrhoids can develop if the factors that cause them are not corrected: constipation, straining during bowel movements, a low-fiber diet. That’s why Dr. Cabrera always includes guidance on habits during the consultation.
It depends on the number and grade of the hemorrhoids. Many cases are resolved in 1–2 sessions. When there are multiple hemorrhoids, they are treated in separate sessions every 3–4 weeks for safety.
For office or sedentary work, most people return the next day. For physical jobs or jobs that require standing for long periods, we recommend 2–3 days of relative rest.
Grade I, II and III hemorrhoids are usually candidates for banding without surgery. Grade IV hemorrhoids (permanent, irreducible prolapse) or thrombosed external hemorrhoids may require surgery. Dr. Cabrera will assess your case during the consultation.

Gastroenterology
Questions about digestive consultations, reflux, gastritis and more.
If you’ve had recurring abdominal pain, frequent heartburn, changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss or persistent nausea for more than 2 weeks, it’s time to see a doctor. Don’t wait until the symptoms become unbearable.
No fasting is needed for the initial consultation. If Dr. Suárez determines you need a specific test, she will give you the preparation instructions for the next visit at that time.
Yes. Dr. Suárez offers proctology consultations in addition to gastroenterology. Many patients prefer her for availability, gender or language. If the case requires a specific procedure, Dr. Cabrera performs it.
Gastroesophageal reflux is usually controlled very well through changes in diet, habits and medication. In most cases it does not require surgery. Dr. Suárez will determine the most appropriate plan based on the severity of your case.
Yes! Dr. Suárez offers full consultations in English — medical history, diagnosis and treatment plan, all in English. You can book directly via WhatsApp by writing in English. We serve international patients from Cancún, Puerto Morelos and across the Riviera Maya.

HPV and High-Resolution Anoscopy
Questions about anal HPV, condylomas and the HRA test.
HRA is the anal equivalent of a gynecological colposcopy. It uses a high-magnification colposcope and contrast solutions to detect precancerous lesions in the anal canal that are not visible to the naked eye. It is the only reliable method for early detection of anal cancer.
It is indicated for people with anal HPV, a history of anal warts, immunocompromised patients (including HIV positive), men who have sex with men, women with cervical HPV or dysplasia, and anyone with an abnormal anal Pap smear result.
No. It is an outpatient procedure that does not require fasting, an enema or any special preparation. We only recommend having had a natural bowel movement that day. No general anesthesia is needed.
There is no antiviral that eliminates HPV. The immune system clears it spontaneously in most cases. What can be treated are its manifestations: warts, precancerous lesions and cancer. The vaccine prevents new infections by genotypes not yet acquired.
Yes. At ProctoMed we perform: HRA, anal Pap smear, high-risk HPV PCR, targeted anal biopsies, wart treatment (chemical and hyfrecation) and HPV vaccination. We are the only practice in Quintana Roo offering all of these.
